Society History and aims
The Society started at a meeting on 10th Sept 1979 when Stuart Gibson (first Secretary), Dave Mason (first Treasurer), Doreen Mason, Ian Mumford and Bob Anderson (first Chairman) got together to set up a new society for people interested in all aspects of the local natural history. Most other societies tended just to focus on birds.
The opening meeting took place on 20th Sept 1979 and 23 people were present. Pete Atherton, David Cookson and Joan Davidson were elected onto the Committee. Subs were set at £1.00 then, with 50p for Junior members. The name suggested for this new Society was the Nantwich Naturalists Club.
The Society has changed, and evolved over the years, but its aim remains the same (as stated in the Constitution) : "To promote and foster the study of Natural History"
